The story of Tariq and Tonka begins not in a lab or factory, but on the winding roads of distant lands — guided by a deep yearning for something pure, soulful, and timeless.

Fuelled by a passion for scent and a reverence for nature, we set out on a journey across continents, seeking the rarest and most authentic natural ingredients the world had to offer. From the spice bazaars of Marrakesh to the rose valleys of Bulgaria, from the misty oud forests of Assam to the sun-drenched lavender fields of Provence — every step brought us closer to the soul of perfumery.

We wandered through rain-soaked soil in India to discover Mitti Attar, the scent of the first monsoon. We followed the trails of ancient incense caravans in the Middle East, drawn by the smoky richness of oud and frankincense. In Southeast Asia, we learned the quiet patience of sandalwood harvesters, whose craft is passed down through generations.

But this journey was never just about ingredients. It was about people — the farmers, distillers, and artisans who work with their hands and hearts. Their knowledge, traditions, and respect for the land shaped everything we do.

Out of this global voyage was born Tariq and Tonka — a name that reflects both the path we walked (Tariq, meaning “path” or “way” in Arabic) and the warmth we found along the way (Tonka, the seed with a scent as comforting as it is complex).
